How do I start a new conversation?
Updated October 19, 2026
Write first to anyone by email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp or Telegram. Starting from their record is quickest: Breakcold fills in their address.
Step by step
- Open People and click the person you want to write to.
- At the top of the record, click Compose message and pick the channel. Only the channels you've connected are listed. Breakcold fills in To: add a Subject for an email, write your message and click Send.
Other ways to start one
- From the Inbox: click Compose at the top of the Inbox and choose Email, LinkedIn message, WhatsApp message or Telegram message. In To, search for a record by name, or type an email address, phone number or username.
- From a records list: hover a row and click the speech-bubble button, Send message.
- From anywhere: press Q (or click + next to search) to open Quick actions, then pick Email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp or Telegram under Message.
- From search: press ⌘ K (or Ctrl K) and choose Compose Email.
Good to know
- A LinkedIn message needs a record. Pick a person in To: Breakcold sends to their LinkedIn profile.
- If the record has no email address or profile for that channel, you see a warning such as Selected record has no email value. Choose another record or type an email manually.
- In the From list, an account can show:
- Needs reconnect: the account is disconnected. Reconnect it in Settings → Accounts.
- No send permission: a teammate shared the account so you can read it, not send from it.
- Record-only send: you can only write to people who are records, so pick a record in To.
- You can't schedule a new message, only replies.
- After sending, you see Email sent or Message sent. The new conversation is in the Sent view, and moves to Inbox when they reply. On LinkedIn, WhatsApp and Telegram, if you already have a chat with this person, the message goes into that chat.
- Compose message only shows on records you're allowed to edit.
