How do I create a task?
Updated October 19, 2026
A task is a to-do with an optional due date, one or more assignees and the records it is about. You can create one from the Tasks page or from wherever you are working.
Step by step
- Open Tasks and click New task.
- Type the task name. To set a deadline, click Due date and pick a day, a time, or one of the Quick dates such as Tomorrow or Next week. Turn on Description to add details.
- Click 1 assignee (you're assigned by default) to choose who should do the task. Each teammate you pick is added to the list. No assignee clears it.
- Click Link record, type a name and pick the person, company or deal the task is about. You can link several records.
- Click Create, or press Cmd+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows). To add several tasks in a row, turn on Create more first: the dialog stays open after each task.
Good to know
- From a record: open its Tasks tab and click Create task, or click the New task button at the top of the record. The task is linked to that record.
- For several records at once: select them in a table and click Create tasks from selected records in the bar at the bottom. The dialog's button reads Create 3 tasks (for three records): one task per record, with the same name, due date and assignees.
- From a conversation: in the Inbox, click Create task at the top of the conversation. The task is linked to the conversation and to its records. See What is a task linked to a conversation?
- From anywhere: click + at the top of the sidebar, then Task. The keyboard way is Q, then T. The command palette (Cmd+K) has Create Task too.
- Each assignee gets a notification. Mention a teammate with @ in the name or the description to notify them as well. You don't get a notification for assigning or mentioning yourself.
- With Create more, the name, due date and description are cleared after each task. The assignees and linked records stay.
