How do I add a note to a record?
Updated October 19, 2026
A note keeps what you learned about a record in one place, with rich text, images and mentions of teammates. Notes work the same way on every object, custom objects included.
Step by step
- Open People (or any other object) and click the name of the record.
- Click the Notes tab. Its badge shows how many notes the record has.
- Click Create note at the top right of the tab. From any tab, you can also click the New note icon at the top of the record page.
- Give the note a title, if you want one.
- Write the note. Type @ to mention a teammate, or / to add a heading, a list, an image or an embed.
- Click Create note, or press Cmd+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows).
Good to know
- Create note stays grey until the note has some text. A title alone isn't enough.
- The Notes tab lists the most recently edited notes first. Adding, editing and deleting a note also shows in the record's Activities timeline.
- A teammate you mention gets a notification: "… mentioned you in a note".
- To edit a note, click it in the Notes tab and change it. It saves on its own.
- To delete a note, open it, click the ⋮ icon at the top right, then Delete, and confirm with Delete. This can't be undone. Only its author can delete a note; teammates can still edit it.
- A company or a deal also shows the notes of the records linked to it, such as a company's people. A badge on each note names the record it belongs to.
- Images in a note can be up to 8MB each.
- Quick Notes on People and Deals is a text field, not a note. It shows with the other fields, not in the Notes tab.
FAQ
Can I export notes to a CSV file?
No. A CSV export holds field values only. To get notes out of Breakcold, use the REST API or the MCP server, which can list the notes of a record.
